The Beat Rolls On...
Letter from the Editor

The Beat November 2002

It‘s still a bit of a mystery to me exactly how this big bundle of fresh Beats turns up on my door every month, but there it is and so it goes. A big kamsa hamnida to everyone who helps out every month, doing what they do, and pitching in to make this the best (read: only) English monthly in the Busan area.

We have some new columnsits this month, a couple of new ads, a whole shitload of photos, and three letters to the editor, two of which were not from my mother. Pusan Ilbo recently did a short story on us, saying that we are an English magazine, and that we do, in fact, exist.

Heady stuff.

Slowly, steadily, we grow. But we aren‘t out of the woods yet. If you are a reader who thinks The Beat is a worthwhile thing that should stick around, I have a request to make:

Send us ten percent of your salary every month.

If you can‘t swing that and you still want to help, there is still something you can do. Patronize our advertisers, and tell them you heard about them in The Beat. Without ads, we sink faster than a North Korean “fishing expedition”.

And we still need help, from the creative (writing, photography) to the mundane (distribution, info gathering, translation, massaging Andy‘s poor hands, etc.). If any of that interests you, get in touch at the addresses below.

Or write us a letter saying, “I think The Beat is a worthwhile thing that should stick around.”

And again, you can always just write a check, payable to:

John Bocskay
