From The Editor - September

Gentle Reader:

The last issue certainly got some attention, some of it good and some of it bad. Everyone who expressed a strong opinion one way or the other, I asked to write a letter to the editor. Much to my disappointment, no one wrote. The upshot of it is:
If you don’t like what you read in the paper, write something that you want to read.
If you don’t like the way something looks in the paper, come to a meeting and change it.
If you don’t like the topics addressed by the paper, write about what needs to be addressed.

Remember it is an all-volunteer paper. The content, appearance, and availability of this paper are entirely dependent upon the community it serves to supply.

Some of you may believe that the paper is an established time tested and worn part of the expat scene here in Pusan, but nothing is farther from the truth. The paper barely makes it from month-to-month. The June, July, and August issues were put together by very few people.

To be honest, the September issue has seen an increase in the number of people calling me, and submitting articles and volunteering for tasks. Thanks for the new blood.

So, keep the good will flowing to all around, and I’ll be seein’ you around town.

Your editor,

Jon

THE PAPER JOBS:

Typing: have access to Dream Internet Café or NetValley, or an e-mail account.
Editing: have access to e-mail, and have decent English language skills.
Cut & Paste: be available on Sunday, and be able to cut and/or draw a straight line, and be able to use glue neatly!!!
Distribution: have a burning desire to visit cool places, and can lift bundles of newspaper.
Ad Asst: visit advertisiers, collect money, and have some creativity for making ads, and hopefully some computer skills, too.

A lot of the people who originated and continued the paper are moving on. To help out does not take a lot of effort, especially if there are a lot of people helping.

If you think you want to write an article, but are fresh out of ideas, consider the following:
* Review a Lotte Giants game, or a KBL game.
* Write a "What I did for the Summer" piece.
* Tell me what your favourite toilet (that isn't your own) is in Pusan and why (a potential composite piece).
* Review the attractions of your neighborhood.
* Tell us about your expectations of coming to Korea, and if they're being met.
* Explain the difference between Korean and Western age.

The Things in Truth
