There are two kinds of taxis; general and deluxe. General
taxis are usually white or gray. Deluxe taxis, called 'mobom'
taxis in Korean, are black with a yellow sign on the top and the
words 'Deluxe Taxi' written on the side. Mobom taxis are more
expensive. In both kinds of taxis, however, 20% extra is added to the fare
in the night from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. Regular taxi fare begins at 1500won
(1800 won between 12am-4am) and Deluxe Taxi fare begins at 2000won (2400
won between 12am-4am). Additional fare is added based on time and
distance. The meter should always be turned on at the beginning of the
trip, otherwise the driver may try to charge a higher fare than
appropriate. Boarding with other passengers not belonging to
the same group is not allowed on principle, but boarding with passengers
going the same direction can be permitted. In case of boarding with other
passengers admitted, you should pay the whole taxi fare separately from
the other passengers. Updated April 2002 |
