ABSTRACT
Native English-speaking
teachers often cite passivity and low motivation as the most common problems
they have with their students. The same teachers also vocalize their ideal
role as being one of a facilitator. It is therefore incumbent upon teachers
to encourage their wards to become less passive and to create situations
in the classroom that do motivate students. This talk will look at
the origins of this passivity and will explore practical methods to overcome
this apparent reticence to use English in activities. Activities adaptable
to all ages, ability levels and practicing all language skills will be
demonstrated.
