Type of Establishment: Bar

Location: Near Bukyoung University. Take the subway (Line 2) to the Bukyoung/Kyoungsoung station. With your back to Kyoungsoung at the T-junction, walk toward Bukyoung University on the left side of the main road. Turn left at 7-11, and walk a couple of blocks. Bar Code will be on the right on the ground floor.

Review: The theme here is black...dark, chic, but unpretentious. It's a small place--a few tables, small bar, but plenty of atmosphere. They play a good mix of music (rock, jazz, punk, pop) at volumes that encourage conversation, and they feature a recently installed overhead projector and screen, which will be called into service for big games, film showings, concert DVDs, etc...

Bar Code attracts a lot of local artists, filmmakers, and actors, but also suits, teachers, and business people. An interesting mix, and a comfortable, liberal, foreign-friendly vibe. Prices are average: cocktails will set you back 5,000-7,000 won, bottled beer 4,000 won and up. There are a few side dishes on the menu--most of the the usual bar fare, but the Smoked Salmon did catch my eye...
