Review:
Busan is still a long way from being a beer lover's Mecca, but this little
oasis may inspire hope in the hearts of the faithful, lost in the Valley of the
Shadow of Hite. Birra means beer, and they do really mean it: 80 different labels
from 20 countries. They stock a lot of the common imports (Heineken, Beck's,
Amstel, etc.) but they have more than a few you don't see every day. To wit: Newcastle
Brown Ale, Flensberger Pilsener/Dunkel, Erdinger Hefeweizen 500ml., Budejovicky,
Peroni, Zipfer, Stella Artois, Leffe Brown/Blonde, Sapporo, and St. Sebastian
Grand Cru 500ml.. Bottled Beers are priced between 3,500 and 25,000 won. They
also have Diebels "Party Cans" (5 liters) for 70,000 won (with a fruit
platter thrown in to sweeten the party). There is no draft beer, but you won't
hear any complaints from me.
It's a dark, spacious joint, fairly
chic but reasonably priced. They get a youngish crowd and play mainly foreign
pop, rock, and jazz. There are 4 ice bars, lots of cozy tables, and a bar
that seats around 10 people. There are a couple of TVs and they say they'll be
showing the World Cup games...which is cool but is not the reason you should come
here. Homer Simpson said it best, "Beer!" |
