Type of Establishment: Bar
Location: Cross the main street from the Taehwa shopping center in Seomyeon, keep straight, and make the first right on the street with all the street food vendors. Blues Bein will be about 100 meters up on your left. There are statues of the Blues Brothers outside.
Review: Hip but casual place. As the name implies, they play a lot of blues, as well as rock and jazz. They have a big collection of old vinyl on the ground floor--from Barry Manilow to Black Sabbath--pull one out and the staff will spin it for you. They've got cheap draft beer, and a few pricier imported labels (Guinness (can), Beck's Dark, Leffe, Sapporo), and do a passable range of Western pub grub: fish and chips, nachos, chicken wings, french fries, etc.
There
are plenty of tables and you can usually grab one even on a Friday or Saturday
when it gets its biggest crowd. Or you can rub elbows at one of the two bars (one
upstairs and one downstairs). The layout of the place encourages mingling and
socializing more
than most other places around town. It's not really a party
place--though it can be on the right night--but more a place to chill and drink
and shmooze. The crowd is mainly Korean, though it is quite a foreigner-friendy
place and atttracts a fair number of expats from a variety of professions. A lot
of the expats (like me) are drawn to the free pool table on the first floor, which
is often a good place to meet people, or just shoot some stick over a few beers.
Blues Bein is a great addition to any Seomyeon pub crawl.
Big thumbs up.
