Sosa

Type of Establishment: Bar

Location: See directions for Soul Trane. With your back to Soul Trane, turn right and make a quick right on the main road. Sosa is about three blocks down on
the right.

Review: Sosa is a self-described "Latin" or "Salsa"Bar...they have lots of good music (lots of Mercedes Sosa, after whom the bar is named), plenty of vinyl they'll play on request, and I saw some honest-to-God Latinos busting some serious moves on a recent visit. Every Wednesday, an outside group rents the bar and hosts a Salsa and Merengue class. Lessons are 5,000 won per and start at 7 o'clock...According to one enthusiast, the teacher takes beginners through some moves for the first two hours or so, after that, they rip it up until whenever...They do the same on Sunday afternoons at 2p.m., though the price on Sundays is 7,000 won.

On May 18th, Sosa was the venue of the first "POLY show Che"--an art exhibition/concept party hosted by area artists who rent the bar out once a month. On display were a variety of works in defferent media (photography, video, film, installation), more Latin hip-shake, and a rock cover band who had the crowd up and groovin'. According to the organizers, the "POLY show Che" will be a monthly event here (check the Events Calendar for current info). There is a 10,000 won cover charge--not bad, considering the money goes to support area artists--and fringe artists at that, a welcome sight on the Pusan cultural landscape. Check it out.
