A
Visit to Chagalchi
Chagalchi is
the largest and most famous seafood market in Korea. Since
the 1950's, it has been one of Pusan's greatest prides and regarded
as the best place to buy fresh fish of all types. As famous
as the seafood itself, are
the Chagalchi Adjumae (aunts) who use their unique Pusan charm
and skill to bargain with customers while slicing, dicing, and
skinning all manner of sea critter. Every October, Chagalchi
hosts a 'Fish Festival' that includes an eel relay race
and Cooking Contest for Foreigners. The market is
located along the South Port of Nampo-dong, and to appreciate
all the sites, sounds, and smells of Chagalchi in person, you
can get there by buses 11, 13, 15, 30, 35, 55, 56, 58, 58-1, 58-2,
70, 71, 86, 87, 103, 113, 126, 126-1, 134, 302, 305, 306, 310,
and 2001 or you can take the subway to the Chagalchi Stop (#24)
