Pweb This Week

A couple more blogs have been added to the Pweb Blog roll. If you haven't already, visit our Blog list and check out Max Watson's Asian Adventures and Busan Mike / 부산 마이크's blogs. Of course, let us know about your blog and we'll happily add it to the list.

Also back after a rather long hiatus is Pusan Poetry Plus. Seven and a half years, and still happening (albeit irregularly) Pusan Poetry Plus has been a great event to read poetry, strum a guitar, juggle or show your talent off to an audience of appreciative folk. PP+ #37 kicks off Saturday at around 8:30 pm. Click on the link for all the details and for an email address on how to sign up. Also, check out the Pweb video archives for our old PP+ content.

Finally, From the 7th to the 9th is the Haeundae Beach International Surfing Festival. Lots more details by clicking on the link.

There are lots more things happening around town this month. Visit the Calendar for more details and more stuff to do.

What happened to Pusanweb???

You'll notice a few recent changes on Pweb, including the obvious change in design. When we first switched Pusanweb over to the Drupal CMS almost a year ago, we thought  we'd be modifying the basic theme design pretty quickly, but as you've probably noticed we wound up with that boring B7 theme for much too long.
We've begun experimenting with some other options and want your feedback. This current theme is based on 'LiteJazz' and aside from a very different look, it adds the functionality of posting recent blog posts, ads, and forum topics up top. Personally, I don't really like the color scheme there (not very readable), but otherwise think it's got potential. If you hate it and miss the old theme, you can switch back by logging in, clicking 'My Account/Edit' and choosing another theme.  We hope to roll out some other options soon.  If there are any design geeks out there interested in helping to make Pweb prettier, we'd welcome help.
We've also recently updated the forums program and removed the frame from that page.  We've gotten some reports of login issues, but are working to resolve them.  If you are having trouble staying logged in to the forums, check out this thread.  More changes are on the horizon, so stay tuned for the Pwebolution. As always, thanks much for being part of the  Pusanweb community, and if you see things you'd like to change or improve, don't be hostile, be helpful.

Cheers,
Jeff Lebow

New on Pweb

Three new blogs have been submitted recently to the Pweb Blog Roll:

- The Grand Narrative - A blog looking at Korean social issues and learning Korean.
Korea Dreambus - Documentary production on life as an EFL teacher in S. Korea.
- New Age Techno Pop - A journal of travels and outrages by a man of angry letters.

Check out the Pweb Blog Post Archives to see a compilation of all blog posts.

Mavsman (resident movie reviewer) has been on top of all the summer movies in the Movie Reviews section. Check them out.

The business listings and review section of Pweb is slowly, slowly crawling towards usefulness. If you know of a good business, bar, restaurant, hairdresser, garage, let the rest of the community know. Click on Buisness Listings and Reviews to learn how to add your two cents to the site.

And, as always, events are constantly being added to the calendar. Again, make the calendar your own by adding a festival, event, concert, or any other sort of event to the calendar.

Upcoming Events

Vinyl Underground is kicking off the first New Wave 80's Night this Friday (6th) and every Friday all summer long. There are drink specials and prizes for the best dressed, 80's style. So get your hairspray out and head on down to Vinyl.

Soul Trane is kickin' with a new nite of their own: Funked Up Friday, a new and funky night every Friday with the new residents C.O.G., playing a mix of soul, funk disco and house.

If you're more into a hillbilly sound, Kettle Mountain Social, Busan's residence bluegrass band, will be playing live, starting around 11:30 am, this Friday (13th) at Crossroads, in PNU.

Next Saturday has something for everyone. If you're looking to hit the road, the 10th Boryeong Mud Festival runs from Saturday the 15th to the 22nd. It's a bit of a haul to get there, but lots of folk feel it's worth it. Directions to get there are on the event website.

Finally, the Busan branch of the Korean Muslims Federation invites all Muslims and non-Muslims to the 1st Islamic Symposium on Saturday, July 14th, starting at 2:00 pm.  This Symposium is arranged for non-Muslims especially. For directions and more information, visit the Event Calendar.

Pweb updates, Summer Plans, & the EFL Law Forums come home

The Pusanweb management team gathered online for what will hopefully be a semi-regular online meeting and discussion about Pusanweb.

During the show, we talked to Paul Robertson, the EFL-Law guy, about the EFL-Law forums. Due to other commitments, Paul is giving up the EFL-Law forums and he has asked if Koreabridge would be willing to host and manage them from now on. We have agreed to host the forums, as we feel that there is a great deal of very useful information on the site for those in need of job advice. We will be changing the name of the forum to the Koreabridge Job Advice Forums. The Job Advice forum will remain separate from the existing Pusanweb/Koreabridge Forums. Most members of the EFL-Law Forum moderator team have agreed to stay on as moderators, so that will also remain the same.

We expect that the forum transfer to be smooth. All usernames, passwords, PMs, topics and posts will remain intact after the switch, so there will be no need to re-register or anything like that. After the transfer, there will be some minor restructuring of the board categories and there will be some posting policy changes to bring the EFL-Law forums closer to the Koreabridge policies.
